The Yoga of a Poem
June 19, 2025
6:00 - 9:00 pm ET
Poet’s House, New York, NY
A blend of gentle yoga movement, poem-based discussion, process writing, and sharing, this workshop is designed to explore the confluence of concepts that exist in the energy of a yoga practice and the writing of a poem as a guide towards friends like clarity and alignment on both the page and in the body
Awaken a relationship with proprioceptive inquiry to support a deepening ability to refine your contemplative lens: to tune into and articulate lived experience with acuity. Consider the structure of a poem akin to a yoga asana. As such, build architecture that supports meaning through the poem’s subtextual chord, which parallels the energetic chord that stretches down the center of the body. Affirm the poem’s meaning with a strong foundation––as steady feet planted in specific ways ground a strong standing posture into its brightness, employ craft anchors like strong diction, line breaks, and punctuation choices to reinforce structure from which meaning can shine.
